ZF AD Stack

In 2026, ZF's ProAI supercomputer runs a multi-layered software stack that combines proprietary ZF control software with integrated partner platforms to enable Level 2+ and Level 3 autonomous driving.

  1. Core Perception and AI Stack
  2. The primary autonomous driving software integrated into the ProAI is the Snapdragon Ride™ Pilot and Vision stack from Qualcomm.
  • Snapdragon Ride Pilot: This software provides the AI-based perception required for detecting objects, recognizing lanes and traffic signs, and real-time mapping.
  • Vision Capabilities: It utilizes a Bird's-Eye-View (BEV) architecture and advanced fisheye camera processing to create a high-fidelity surround-sensing environment.
  • Sensor Fusion: The stack integrates radar and camera data within the ProAI to minimize latency and improve decision-making in complex traffic scenarios.
  1. Vehicle Motion Control: cubiX
  2. ZF's proprietary cubiX software serves as the central coordinator for all vehicle dynamics.
  • Holistic Control: It merges longitudinal, transverse, and vertical dynamics, coordinating the steering, brakes, and drive actuators as a single system.
  • Autonomous Variants: For high-level automation, the cubiX AD variant is used for SAE Level 4 and above, where the software assumes full responsibility for implementing the driving trajectory.
  • Safety Integration: cubiX forms the basis for ADAS functions by ensuring the vehicle's physical movements perfectly match the path planned by the AI.
  1. Middleware Layer
  2. The ZF Middleware acts as the "mediator" between the ProAI’s operating system and the various driving applications.
  • Hardware Abstraction: It allows autonomous driving functions to run independently of the specific hardware, simplifying the integration of new software features.
  • Universal Communication: It "translates" data between different software layers, ensuring that the AI’s decisions are communicated to the actuators in a standardized language.
  1. Modular ADAS Functions
  2. ZF offers a suite of approximately 25 modular ADAS functions that run on the ProAI platform.
  • Navigate on Autopilot (NOA): The most advanced feature, providing hands-off highway cruising and automated lane changes.
  • Regional Solutions: For the Chinese market, ZF is launching a specialized ADAS generation in 2026 called "coPILOT," developed in partnership with Horizon Robotics and powered by their Journey-6P chips.
